Q. What about your “Drone Control”?

A. We have established isolated mating yards in a very remote area. Our drone colonies are selected for hygienic behavior, disease, and mite resistance. They are fed pollen supplement, and provided with additional drone combs to insure abundant populations.

Most queen producers offer daughters of a variety of excellent breeder queens. Since a virgin mates with anywhere from 8 to 20 drones, when they are open-mated with non-specific drones it is difficult to predict with any certainty whether their progeny will demonstrate the desired characteristics.

The advantage of our breeding program is that because we do have a closed population in our drone yards, we can confidently produce queens that consistently demonstrate the same desirable traits.
